I am a classically trained chef with a lot of experience in restaurant kitchens. That part of my career came to a close after working under Antoine Westermann a few blocks from the White House. At that point he had a three Michelin Star restaurant in Paris and a two Michelin Star restaurant in Germany. Years later I was introduced to food styling and was shocked that I had never heard about it - not even in culinary school. It took some time for me to really grasp what it was all about and the part I played, but once I did, it was clear that it was a match made in heaven. I cook for myself and others very often, but when I do it for a shoot, its a completely different art form and that is one of the reasons I love it so much. It has broadened my understanding of food and cooking in ways I never imagined. Working with food day in and day out, I got to know it very well, almost in the way you get to know a person. It really is an awesome experience to bring out the best in food for the camera - to show people what I see when I look at food.
